by Miguelito Tolipas, IV-Platinum
Lagro High School students reap awards in the 4th YMCA National Talent Olympics held at the Manila Downtown YMCA Bldg., Conference Hall last January 19, 2013 .
The two students are Karen Joy B. San Diego (IV-Gold) who won 1st place in the Essay Writing and, truthfully yours Miguelito A. Tolipas (IV-Platinum) who got the 3rd place in Quiz Bee.
"Salamatsamgabatang 'to. Anggagalingnila. Hindi nga kami nagkamalisapagpilisakanila," Ms. Imelda Biglang-Awa said, one of the trainors of the contestants.
With this year's theme, "Breaking Barriers: Strengthening Partnership towards Transformation," the YMCA of the Philippines held its annual National Academic Olympics with different delegates coming from the regions of Northern Luzon, Southern Luzon, Visayas Region, Mindanao Region and lastly, the Manila Bay Region. But unfortunately, the incumbent president of the YMCA of the Philippines Mr. Felix Eliral R. Refuerzo told us that the Mindanao Region was not able to send their representatives for the said competition.
"Angsaya-sayanamin.Hindi naminakalaingmakaka-abot kami rito. Because this was our first time that we've been able to join a National-level contest. And luckily, we won," Karen Joy B. San Diego remarked.
The said contest had its other different categories namely Singing contest, Extemporaneous Speech, Oratorical Contest, On-the-spot Poster Making and Modern Dance. We had our school's candidates in these said categories but they weren't able to join the National contest for they didn't qualify to advance to the Regional Level.
The Distric level of the said contest was held at the Carlos P. Garcia High School last November 20, 2012 while the Regional level was held on January 12, 2013 at the Conference Hall of YMCA Manila Downtown.
The trainors/coaches were given Certificates of Recognition aside from the medals/trophies and Certificates of Merit given to the winners.
